Jo Derbyshire - Yoga Teacher
Jo comes from a dance background originally, dancing since the age of 6 years old. After training, she toured with dance troupes all around the world and worked as a professional dancer in Europe, Central America, danced in a circus in Mexico, floor shows in East Asia to name but a few. Jo came across Bhakti Yoga ( Devotional service ) first, in her early 20's and has been practicing for over 25 years. Serving, chanting and meditating has helped Jo through her most difficult and most poignant times in her life. It opened her heart, mind and soul to the beauty of what a "yogic" life really means.
Jo was first introduced to Hatha yoga, during her third pregnancy (with her daughter Satya-sara,), 23 years ago and felt the full benefits of hatha yoga and pranayama. Also Jo had suffered an injury during a show, leaving her with a severely torn hamstring and realised then that her body could not withstand the impact of high energy, stage dance any longer and found the natural progression to Hatha yoga kinder and more fulfilling.
Jo is also qualified as a 200 Hour Sun Power yoga teacher.
Having the combination of Bhakti, Asana and Pranayama in her day to day life has changed Jo’s life completely. Helping Jo to become more peaceful and compassionate towards heryelf, others and all living beings ( Ahimsa ). To be grateful for the life that she has been given, making every effort to be humble, more tolerant and seeing the best in everyone that she meets.
